Activities to do at home:
To help children develop an understanding of quantity, provide a variety of materials. Offer stickers, beans, buttons, and other materials for children to count.
Make sure to model comparison vocabulary. Use words like more, most, less, fewer, least, same as, or equal.
Read stories that have numerals and items to count.
Recite finger plays, sing songs, and do rhymes about numbers.
Talk aloud when solving problems and counting.
Tell "how many" stories. For example, talk about how many eggs it takes to make pancakes.
Discuss differences between shapes. Encourage children to create shapes from items and draw them.
Model and encourage use of positional words (in, under, over, etc.)
