First Aid/CPR:
A first aid/CPR kit is located in each classroom. Each Teacher and Teacher Assistant/Aide in the classroom will maintain current first aid/CPR certification. In the case of an accident, the teacher or assistant teacher will administer first aid/CPR as necessary.
Playground Supervision Plan
1. Children will exit the building and enter the playground using the gate closest to the classrooms.
2. Children will leave the playground using the gate closest to the classrooms.
3. Teachers (Amanda Douglas, Misty Brandon, and Shelly Ray) and assistants (Nancy Kidd, Judy Cuevas) will alternate sides of the playground to maintain constant sight of all the children. The staff will take turns supervising and acting as play facilitators. One staff member will be in the proximity of the main gate which is used for entering and exiting.
4. All staff receives emergency training in First Aid/CPR and is aware of emergency information postings. Should a child need to use the restroom, they will be escorted into the building by one of the staff leaving the other staff on the playground as the supervisors and play facilitator.
Playground Maintenance Plan
Prior to children going outside, daily playground inspections are completed to ensure there are no safety hazards on the playground. These inspections are documented on the daily playground inspection sheet. Monthly playground reports are submitted to Program Specialist for follow up for items such as mulch deliveries, power washing of play sets, painting etc. The Head Start Teacher Assistant completes the daily playground inspections. The Site Manager completes the monthly reports. All of the completed daily playground inspection reports are kept in the center monitoring notebook and reviewed by the Program Specialist (Kenneth Hughes). The Site Manager submits Work Orders to the Program Assistant for resilient surfacing or any other concerns related to the playground. It is our policy that all play areas present no conditions which may be hazardous to children.
Prevention Plan
During Arrival and Departure one staff member will be in the proximity of the door. Two staff members are with the children until the last child leaves.
Roll is called before leaving any building and playground. When roll is called, the child’s name is called and the teacher looks to verify the child is present. The teacher checks off on the sign in/out sheet, in addition to recording the time; there is a specific place for the teacher to do this. The education staff counts the children throughout the day when transitioning to other areas of the campus, i.e. breakfast, lunch, playground.
After the child has been signed out for the day, the person responsible for the child is encouraged to keep the child with him/her as they walk to the vehicle. This also applies to Arrival; they are encouraged to keep children with them until they have been signed in for the day. The education staff will try to discuss any items with parents before they sign their child out for the day.
